How did you get started with event planning?

I got started with planning events when I started transforming my church into themes for vacation bible school each summer.  After that, I  went on to help my sister decorate for her wedding.

What is your style influence and/or inspiration, and how do you incorporate it with the client’s vision?

My style is mainly based off me finding the beauty in everything I see around me.  Many clients give me their visions and allow my imagination to run wild because they know my work most of the time and trust my visions based on that.

What is the biggest misconception you feel people have about working in your industry?  What keeps you motivated, and how do you deal with obstacles?

The biggest misconception about working in my field is that people see the final product but don’t realize the amount of work that goes into designing full events. We’ve planned events that consists of between 200-300 guests or more.  There is a lot of  important details/elements that must be properly executed.

My motivation comes from other event designers.  I follow over 100 designers and it seems like the more they post on social media, the more I’m motivated to execute a fabulous event like theirs.  Sometimes obstacles come up during my events, but a good designer can think on their toes and solve issues quickly.

What do you wish you knew before starting this business? How has that shaped the way you now operate?

Prior to entering the field of event design/planning I wish I knew how much time it would take away from my personal life.  I try to incorporate a healthy work-life balance. Sometimes it can be difficult with my schedule however, most of the time I can manage to make it home for dinner with my family.

My top 3 tips for aspiring event planners/designers are to stay motivated, be different and stay true to your prices.

Do you offer services outside of Columbia, SC?

We are expanding our territory this year and offering services to over half of the United States.
