When we talk about filmmakers who are boldly carving their own lane, Kedra L. Curry Quintana is a name that deserves attention.
An award-winning Afro-Latina filmmaker, screenwriter, storyteller, and founder of Soulful Minds Media, Kedra is helping redefine what independent filmmaking looks like while creating space for stories that have historically been overlooked. In an industry where women, and particularly women of color, continue to face barriers behind the camera, she is proving that talent, vision, and persistence can open doors that many once believed were out of reach.
What makes Kedra’s work particularly compelling is her ability to blend Southern Gothic horror, fantasy, mythology, spirituality, and emotional storytelling into immersive cinematic experiences. Her stories are not simply designed to entertain; they invite audiences to explore deeper themes surrounding identity, faith, culture, humanity, and imagination.
With more than 85 international film festival selections, numerous awards, finalist placements, and two Best Female Filmmaker honors, Kedra has quickly established herself as one of the most exciting emerging voices in independent film. Her work has screened around the world, earning recognition across multiple continents and connecting with audiences from diverse backgrounds.
Among her notable projects is The Legend of William Boucher, a film that received Semi-Finalist recognition from a jury that included the original creators of A Nightmare on Elm Street. Her fantasy short film, The Kingdom of the Seven Realms, has continued to build momentum globally while showcasing her unique ability to merge biblical inspiration, science fiction, mythology, and visual storytelling into a world all her own.

What stands out most about Kedra’s creative approach is her willingness to embrace innovation. Through projects like The Kingdom of the Seven Realms, she has explored the use of AI-generated visuals to expand creative possibilities and bring imaginative worlds to life in ways that challenge traditional production limitations. Rather than replacing creativity, she uses technology as a tool to further elevate storytelling and artistic expression.
Her dedication to her craft is evident in the training and mentorship she has pursued throughout her career. Kedra holds a Sundance Horror Writing Certificate and has studied under respected industry professionals including Hal Ackerman, Franklin Ritch, Robert Townsend, Danny Strong, and Trey Haley. Yet despite her accomplishments, she remains committed to learning, growing, and helping others do the same.
Beyond filmmaking, Kedra is also a Soul Story Healer, Storytelling Trainer, mentor, and speaker. Through her consulting work and creative endeavors, she helps others find and develop their own voices while encouraging authentic storytelling that resonates with audiences.
Worthy of recognition, Kedra continues to break barriers in genres where women and communities of color have historically been underrepresented, proving that diverse voices belong at the center of these stories. By intentionally centering underrepresented voices within fantasy, horror, and science fiction narratives, she is helping expand what audiences expect to see on screen while inspiring the next generation of filmmakers and storytellers to imagine without limits.
Her recent recognition includes Best Horror in London at the Airflix Film Festival, along with multiple official selections and honors, including recognition for Horror and Experimental AI filmmaking at TINFF, one of Canada’s premier film festivals.

As she continues to develop new narrative and documentary projects through Soulful Minds Media and her collaborations with filmmakers across the globe, one thing is clear: Kedra L. Curry Quintana is not waiting for permission to create. She is building worlds, breaking barriers, and leaving her mark on the future of film one story at a time.
